About Homotoxicology for Pets
Homotoxicology believes that disease is the expression of the immune system's defensive efforts to protect the body against internal and external "homotoxins" or an expression of the organism's effort to compensate for toxic damage it has sustained.
In conventional medicine, an illness is the presence of symptoms, threatening the patient's quality of life. The conventionally-trained practitioner will aim at getting rid of the symptoms in order to give the patient back his former quality of life. In the case of inflammation, this means that the doctor will mainly treat the pain, the swelling, the redness and the loss of function. We will have to conclude that in order to do so, he will use suppressive remedies that will block auto-regulation mechanisms.
Inflammation is the reaction of the body's own defences against the presence of strange substances and damaged tissues. Suppressing the inflammation process also means slowing down or inhibiting the natural cleansing and healing process.
Notice that inflammation is biologically purposeful. Inflammation is necessary in order to eliminate the toxic substances (homotoxins) in the body and repair the injured tissues. If we stop this inflammatory process, the present homotoxins will continue to decrease the overall health of the patient.
The homotoxicologic approach to inflammation is completely different. It never suppresses, but guides and even stimulates the regulating facets in order to speed up the whole process. Eventually, this will also result in the disappearance of the symptoms. The patient will regain his standard of life, but only because the toxic cause (foreign matter, tissue damage) has been removed. Allopathic treatment of inflammation is directed almost entirely toward the symptoms, whereas homotoxicology is directed against the cause.
Homotoxicology is an offshoot of homeopathy and represents a link between homeopathy and conventional medicine. Homeopathy is an approach to healing which uses extremely dilute portions of a remedy to cure a disease which has as its symptoms the same symptoms that would develop in a healthy person if that person were given the same remedy but in a much more concentrated toxic dose. Homotoxic remedies are combinations of remedies which include a mixture of animal, vegetable and minerals. This is in direct distinction to classical homeopathy which uses only a single remedy at a time.
